The official website for Bushiroad's BanG Dream! mixed-media project announced on Thursday that a television anime adaptation has been green-lit. The anime is slated for 2017.
Bushiroad launched the BanG Dream! multimedia project in January 2015. Bushiroad formed the Poppin' Party band for the project in February 2015. The band's members consist of voice actresses who portray the characters in the story, and play the same instruments as their characters. The cast includes: Aimi (Kasumi Toyama) on guitar and vocals, Ayasa Itō (Arisa Ichigaya) on keyboard, Rimi Nishimoto (Rimi Ushigome) on bass, Sae Ootsuka (Tae Hanazono) on lead guitar, and Ayaka Ōhashi (Saaya Yamabuki) on drums.
The group's second single, "Star Beat! ~Hoshi no Kodō~," will ship on August 3. Mantan Web's MAiDiGiTV YouTube channel began streaming a promotional video for the single on Thursday. Aimi introduces the single and the anime adaptation in the video. The end of the video features preview of the second single's animated music video and the anime.
Novelist Kō Nakamura launched a manga titled BanG_Dream! Star Beat in Bushiroad's Monthly Bushiroad magazine in January 2015, and Mami Kashiwabara launched the BanG Dream! manga this spring with Nakamura collaborating on the story. Hakuto Shiroi also launched a separate BanG Dream! manga, Yon-koma Bandori! (4-panel BanG Dream!) in Kadokawa's Dengeki G's Comic this year.
Bushiroad and OLM's joint anime brand ISSEN animated a music video for the project. The video features the first single, "Yes! BanG_Dream!," which shipped on February 24.
