Ghibli Marnie and Yamadas Blu-ray Steelbooks in April
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The Amazon and Zavvi websites are listing Blu-ray Steelbook editions of two Studio Ghibli films - Hiromasa Yonebayashi's When Marnie Was There (right) and Isao Takahata's My Neighbors the Yamadas (below left) - for April 13. They will be released by Studio Canal.
Released in 2014, When Marnie Was There was adapted from a British novel by Joan G. Robinson. The film tells the story of a young girl, Anna, on the Japanese island Hokkaido, who is sent to the coast for health reasons. There she meets an unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a girl her age with flowing blonde hair. As the friendship deepens it is possible that Marnie has closer ties to the protagonist than we might expect.
Released in 1999, My Neighbors the Yamadas was adapted from a Japanese newspaper strip by Hisaichi Ishii and depicts the daily life and foibles of a Japanese family - children, parents, grandmother and dog.
