IMG 859.jpg Kris "KrisRix" Woodside - At six years old, Sailor Moon is what inspired me to become an artist, and I can proudly say I am now a successful freelancer (Linda Ballantyne even has one of my pieces!). Many of my artistic endeavors began through a spark of creativity supplied by SM. I created a SM parody series for 6 years, a SM live action short film (with nearly two million views on YouTube), countless pieces of fanart, numerous cosplays, and I hope this is only the beginning! SM has shaped my life, my dreams, and my relationships, and it couldn't mean more to me!
IMG 970.jpg Princess Mentality Cosplay - With a transformative incantation and an immediately recognizable pair of odangos, Sailor Moon gave me the strength to face any challenge with my head held high - even when I was told I had no place in this fandom because of the color of my skin. She taught me the importance of equality, acceptance and unwavering optimism. My love for this series is so deeply embedded in my personality - it's a part of who I am, who I was, and who I'll one day become. Simply put, the woman I am today would not exist without Sailor Moon
IMG 1167.jpg TomIsCluutch - Sailor Moon was the very first anime I ever watched and I really enjoyed it. Over time, i lost interest and found enjoyment in other anime. Then I met my girlfriend, who is a Sailor Moon addict! I have tried so hard to find the DVD set for her but every collection I've found is not officially licensed. I would love to win this for her, and when i surprise her with the DVDs: Have a ring requesting her to marry me at the same time! It would be perfect for her to remember it forever!
IMG 971.jpg K. Wiley - With each time I watch Sailor Moon, I always learn something new about myself. The feelings it evoked in me as a child and as an adult... I feel complete! I laughed, I cried, and was inspired by Usagi's passion and courageousness, and felt this powerful urge to do and be something more, even if it meant hitting a few bumps along the way. It was because of Sailor Moon that I accomplished my dreams, and am what I am today. Sailor Moon will always be the most beautiful, shining light in my life.
IMG 941.jpg Mina Sanwald - I was 7 when I first happened upon Sailor Moon one Saturday morning. From the moment the theme song started, I was bewitched. Inspired I needed to recreate, color, animate and illustrate everything Sailor Moon. I found a kindred soul in Sailor Venus; So much so that I adopted her first name as my own. Today because of that chance encounter I am a Professional Illustrator and Animator with two books out and several large production animations under my belt. Thankyou Sailor Venus for forever being my muse! I only hope my work could inspire the way Sailor Moon has.
IMG 281.jpg Sailor Crafty - I have been a Sailor Moon fan since the 3rd grade. I remember getting up at 5am to record it onto VHS tapes in High School. As an adult, I have been inspired to create Super Sailor Moon, Neo Queen Serenity and Transforming Sailor Moon cosplays. Even my all black cat, Luna (of course I'd name her that!), was first found as a stray on my windowsill. It was like the universe confirming to me that life is full of magic, love and hope - something that Sailor Moon had been teaching me all along!
IMG 377.jpg Joy - Strength is something you cannot match with a woman who is feminine and beautiful, they taught me this and introduced me to be the wonderful world of anime. There was also something else that they introduced me to, I was attracted to someone in the show..Sailor Uranus. I actually thought she was a boy, little did I know she brought me out of the closet even if she was just a character to some people. I am now living out and open as a lesbian who is strong and confident with my own sailor Uranus who I am marrying soon.
IMG 396.jpg Amanda - I discovered Sailor Moon when I was 15 after my mom passed away from cancer. As silly as it sounds, Sailor Moon gave me a whole new outlook on life and has been my inspiration ever since. From tattoos to cosplay my world has revolved around Sailor Moon. I became a police officer when I turned 24 so I could fight crime by the moonlight! I even named my daughter Serena whose nursery is covered in Sailor Moon art. It is still my favorite show to this day and always will be!
IMG 802.jpg Amanda Marie - Sailor Moon means ALOT to me. It's a significant part of my life. I was a new kid in both elementary and middle school. I didn't have many friends, so Sailor Moon was always there for me when I got home. Whenever we got to pick a subject for a school project, I always use Sailor Moon (two projects made at the bottom of this picture). Sailor Moon GREATLY inspired me to draw and was the gateway into the world of Japanese animation. Sailor Moon is a life saver for me during sad times and always brings me great joy!
IMG 974.jpg Alberto Larios - Sailor Moon cast a music spell on me. It's one of the reasons I love the series. Seeing Michiru play the violin inspired me so much I begged my parents for a violin at thirteen; I was determined to learn the Outer Senshi Theme and Michiru's solos. I later quit music. It wasn't until nearly 8 years later that I resumed playing music; this time with the Cello/Piano. Currently I'm getting a BA in Music. My dream is to compose, build connections and enchant others by sharing stories through music; just what Sailor Moon did for us Moonies. :)
IMG 1010.jpg Asher - As a child, I was sad that girls had to be rescued and marry a prince. I never understood why they couldn't save themselves and fall in love with each other. Sailor Moon showed me a world where girls could save the world and could be true to themselves. In high school I came out as bisexual and my first cosplay was my favorite senshi, Sailor Uranus, a strong warrior who loved a woman. Today, I'm married to a man who supports my love of this wonderful show. Sailor Moon will always be important to me and I love it.
IMG 994.jpg Esha Barkat - My cousin showed me Sailor Moon at her place a few years ago. As we live in a remote area (Kashmir), we didn't know much about cartoons. I was awe-stricken by the Senshi! They were beautiful! They can fight, keep up their studies & still enjoy their life! I loved that idea. I like Mako-chan the most. She's physically strong, loves cooking & does all her house chores herself! When I grow up, I want to be just like her! (My cousin, Hibbah Khan, is the one helping me with this as we don't have a computer at our village).
IMG 1066.jpg Jacob S - Sailor Moon was extremely important to me as a young boy. It taught me that girls were every bit as strong as boys, and then some! (Move over Power Rangers!) As a boy I never felt left out knowing that I could never be a Sailor Soldier, especially seeing as I couldn't pull off the outfit, but I really looked up to strong female characters in anime. Regardless of gender, Usagi/Serena is one of the most relatable characters out there. I remember how excited I used to be watching it on Toonami, and I'm still just as excited today.
IMG 1120.jpg Ferret Party - Sailor Moon has been a huge creative influence for me. Before watching Sailor Moon for the first time (way back in 4th grade!) I had never watched a show where there was a diverse cast of girls who had the spotlight, who actually DID things, and who were friends and didn't try to tear each other down. I loved Sailor Moon so much I would draw her and her friends for hours. I now make comics!
IMG 1125.jpg Rin Gonzalez - Sailor Moon saved me from loneliness as a child. My mother was placed into a mental hospital when I was six. After which I was given to an abusive family on accident. Once the law stepped in I moved to my grandparents, traumatized and terrified. My grandma who was a therapist for rehabilitating children, encouraged my love for the arts. This picture was taken when I was 10 finally living peacefully with my grandparents, all snuggled up with my friends who helped me keep going. I'm now 24, happily married, a public relations manager, an artist, and cosplayer. Thank you Sailor Moon!
IMG 1105.jpg meeks - I struggled with weight and a negative body image for my whole life. I would always be afraid to put certain foods in my mouth because i knew they were fatty and contribute to more weight gain. Sailor Moon, and Usagi specifically, helped me learn that there is strength and beauty in who I am, both as a woman, and as a big woman. I feel my fan art piece exemplifies that, the Usagi that isn't afraid to be herself and enjoy for herself, despite outside sources telling her she'll get fat, and that gives me strength, hope, and confidence.
IMG 1200.jpg Kitty Waite - When I was in high school me and a friend who I loved like no other adored this series. He would call me his beautiful Sailor Jupiter. He died of heart failure at 16 and I vowed to always be strong and true to my friends as she is. I cosplay as Makoto in his memory. May our stars one day meet again, Andy. I miss you.
IMG 954.jpg Brianna Angelakis - The moment the television announcer exclaimed, "Next up, the pigtailed fighting teenage super heroine, Sailor Moon!", my life changed forever. My obsession with Sailor Moon began in 1996, and it would only continue to escalate as I spent my free time repetitively drawing her. Eighteen years later, I'm a fine artist claiming the core cause of my passion for the arts and female empowerment began with my lifelong love for Sailor Moon. In celebration of Sailor Moon's 20th Anniversary and Sailor Moon Crystal, I'm sharing my newest oil painting of the pretty guardian herself, our Sailor Moon.
IMG 2.jpg KoriStarfire - Sailor Moon has influenced my life since I was 7 years old. Growing up was challenging for me, I moved many times and suffered debilitating depression in my early teen years where instead of turning to destructive outlets, I turned to Sailor Moon. Her story helped me through my difficult times. I was obsessed with the series for at least a decade. I became interested in Japan and went overseas to teach for two years. I even cosplay from Sailor Moon. Now I want to become a costumer, all thanks to Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon really changed my entire life.
IMG 3.jpg Bree - As a kid I was dorky & klutzy-still am!Sailor Moon taught me to be me, be strong & follow my dreams!
IMG 16.jpg Harajuku Bunny - Sailor Moon is my life! The series means so much to me! It introduced me to anime at the age of 4. I've been a fan for almost 17 years! Usagi is the character I most relate to! She's taught me that it's okay not to be perfect and that friendship and kindness are very important. Getting to cosplay her is always a magical experience! I'm so happy that Sailor Moon is back!!!
IMG 194.jpg Evan - Growing up gay, Sailor Moon was a celebration of everything about myself that the world wanted me to be ashamed of. As I got older, the backlash toward my fandom from my peers got harsher, and my shame over who I was followed suit. My memorabilia fell victim until I was left with a single toy Luna hidden away. As an adult, I have worked numerous jobs that required me to hide my sexuality-- but Sailor Moon has again given me the strength to accept myself. Luna sits proudly on my desk, waiting patiently for her friends to come back.
IMG 108.jpg Mercurius - I was born with Aspergers Syndrome since I was 3, but Sailor Moon's genius character, Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, inspired me to study smart and graduate from high school. Also, my "Mercurius" name came from Ami's rival in "Ami's First Love" special. I bought the Irwin Mercury plush, and say "goodnight" to my pretty guardian every night, with 3 special kisses, for over 15 years, as my "dream protector". And yes, I even have my Mercury symbol (mainly used for iphones) on my Xbox One controller's Xbox button.
IMG 226.jpg Lauren Ashley - Sailor Moon showed me that a mother's love never dies and to never give up hope. I lost my mom when I was four, same year Sailor Moon aired in America. In s1 we see Queen Serenity sacrifice her life to save her family and kingdom out of love. This theme is repeated in the second season with Chiba Usa when Neo Queen Serenity is willing to sacrifice her life for her and in the Sailor Moon R movie when Chiba Usa says that Sailor Moon will save everyone because Sailor Moon is everyone's mother. Sailor Moon gives me hope!
IMG 262.jpg LyddiDesign - As a kid I met Ami Mizuno, who was also extremely shy, passionate about learning, and made the best grades possible. Nobody else could understand my deep drive to succeed at school like she did. Her transformation into a brave, caring, and loyal soldier despite her fears and anxiety influenced me to be more accepting of myself and to not let bullying affect me anymore. She showed me that us smart kids are very important to society, even if the other kids didn't recognize it. Years later I am proud to be able to cosplay this very special character!
IMG 413.jpg Sachiko Pudding - Sailor Moon has meant so much to me over the years, starting when I was very young, and my love has only progressed over time. To me, each senshi embodies traits that I would like to incorporate into my own life, and the show has taught me not only how important it is to value your friends but to work on being an amazing friend yourself. My life has changed a lot since my first cosplay in 1997 (and I hope my cosplays have improved over time), but one thing that will never change is my adoration of this show.
IMG 363.jpg Misa-chan - Sailor Moon is my childhood and my asolescence, it also means a lot of memories. In 2012, I was cosplaying Princess Serenity and my bf Tuxedo Mask and on stage at the Anime North Masquerade he proposed to me during our skitNot only is Sailor Moon magical for me, but now also a proof of true love.
IMG 473.jpg Angie - When I'm sad, truly sad, world crushing - heart breaking - totally shattered - sad, I watch Sailor Moon. This doesn't make the tears stop, it's not a Moon Healing Escalation (though I wish it were). Sailor Moon has taught me how to feel and that it's okay to be broken. You will hurt more times than you can count. But what's important is to get up, every time. Rely on your friends, ask for help. I've been able to share this lesson with my nieces and it gives me more fulfillment than anything. Their smiles keep me trying.
IMG 550.jpg Sammie - I first discovered Sailor Moon when I was about five years old. I had no idea what anime was at the time, but I obsessed over the art style so much! Ever since then I have been such a huge anime fan, especially for Sailor Moon! Sailor Moon is important to me, because it inspired me to draw and pursue a career in animation! I am now an animation major, with goals to travel to Japan and one day take my talents even further! Without Sailor Moon, I don't think I would be drawing today!
IMG 512.jpg Jackie Fedeli - If it wasn't for Sailor Moon, I wouldn't be where I am today. She helped me make some of the most crucial decisions in my life. I was so nervous about going to college and so worried that I wouldn't make it. It was upon listening to "Rashiku Ikimasho" and the lyrics "You never know until you try it" that I was convinced that I had to give it a shot. I knew I found my soul mate when I met my future husband, and his first words to me were "I have a Sailor Moon poster in my room."
IMG 622.jpg Cosmic Rabbit - I became a nurse because I wanted to save lives like Sailor Moon. Nursing can be brutal, exhausting, and scary. But, Sailor Moon reminds me to never give up. Usagi was scared and made many mistakes too, yet still managed to stay strong and keep her heart full of love. Sailor Moon is not merely a character, but a symbol. Everyday, I strive to be kinder, braver, and more loving because of her. This beautiful story has impacted my life like nothing else and I will never stop believing in it.
IMG 617.jpg Chibi Jennifer - Sailor Moon has a very special place in my heart. I've been in love with the show since I was a little girl, a time when I was often lonely and didn't have many friends. Sailor Moon gave me a sense of belonging and comfort, with Usagi being a character I could easily relate to. Watching her grow, mature, face her fears and her unconditional love and trust in others is truly inspirational. I hope my Sailor Moon comic strips bring others joy and happiness, just as Sailor Moon continues to for me.
IMG 663.jpg Sable Point - When I was young I was taller than everyone. It was kinda difficult and I felt very weird. So I started to watch Sailor Moon and saw that Sailor Jupiter had to struggle with this same issue! Watching her with such power, gave me the strength I needed to cope with school times. Time passed and I noticed that every inner sailor had something in common with me: I love cooking as Makoto, I was addicted to study as Ami, I'm cheerful as Minako, short tempered as Rei and I'm such a crybaby as Usagi! Happy 20th Birthday!
IMG 715.jpg Katelyn Barr - Sailor Moon is at the very core of who I am. It taught me from a very young age that love is the strongest force in the universe. Usagi's love for Mamoru, her friends, her family, and her planet made her so powerful she was unstoppable. I started my Sailor Moon collection in 2009 and since then it has given me such joy to keep adding to it. The more I collect, the more I'm reminded of the hardships I've been able to overcome by the power of love. I treasure every piece of it because I love Sailor Moon!
IMG 819.jpg Evan MacIsaac - For me, Sailor Moon represents a fantastic array of inspiration. At first glance, it's a fun adventure that entertains. Look a little deeper and you'll find imagery of true friendship, optimism, and romance. Dig further and you'll find themes such as the strength in diversity and the curious power found in naivety. The sailor team shows us that absolutely everyone has value, and that simple feminism might just save the world.Sailor Moon is an exploration into the human condition, from a perspective too often overlooked because of high-pitched voices, glitter, and fabulous hairstyles.
