LEGO Passes on Macross, Zelda Sets

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

LEGO gave the veto to hopeful Macross and Legend of Zelda fans on Tuesday. The company decided against producing the Macross VF-1 Valkyrie and Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter sets in favor of Ellen Kooijman's Female Minifigure "Research Institute" set. The winning set features three female scientists: an astronomer, a chemist, and an paleontologist in their respective labs. The set wasn't originally announced as in the running as part of the Winter 2014 Ideas review because it was still under consideration from the previous Autumn submission period.

All the sets, including a Back to the Future UCS DeLorean Time Machine, Japanese Old Style Architecture, Sherlock and The Adventure Time Project sets were part of the LEGO Ideas review process. So long as the ideas get 10,000 supporters by each deadline, the LEGO team will consider which set will become an official release. The Research Institute set is expected to hit stores in August.

LEGO is now holding its next round which includes more TV and movie-based projects include the "LEGO Bird Project," "Modular Apple Store," "Back to the Future - The Jules Verne Train," "Doctor Who," "Big Bang Theory," and "Doctor Who and Companions." The results will be announced in late summer or early fall.
