Homer Spoofs Godzilla in Sunday's Simpsons Halloween Episode
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The Simpson's annual "Treehouse of Horror XXV" Halloween episode will air this Sunday and the family is again turning to Japanese pop culture for inspiration. Last year the characters imagined multiple incarnations of the Simpsons family were created by an evil marketing entity, including versions of themselves that were obvious parodies of Attack on Titan, Naruto, Pokémon, Bleach, One Piece, and Spirited Away.
This year, Homer is getting much, much bigger as "Homerzilla." The story pokes fun at TOHO's classic monster films and follows Homerzilla as he terrorizes "Springfield Prefecture."
The reference is perfectly timed with the iconic giant lizard's revival. TOHO is producing the first new Japanese Godzilla film in 12 years with chief director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and film director Shinji Higuchi (live-action Attack on Titan films). A sequel of director Gareth Edward's take on the franchise is also in the works along with plans for a King Kong crossover.
