Sally Forth Comic Welcomes Convention Season
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Sally Forth comic creative team Francesco Marciuliano and Jim Keefe are back to their old tricks; again summoning up anime and comic books as a focal point in their strip. The duo previously included a cameo by Cowboy Bebop's Spike Spiegel and last summer saw a multi-comic arc taking the Forth family to a kaiju theme park.
The newspaper comic's June 19 strip welcomed anime and comic book convention season, as the family prepares their costumes and other necessities and heads to Trystero Con. Once again, anime takes center stage as characters Hilary and Duncan decide to cosplay as Maka and Evans from Soul Eater and Sally dons a costume as Starlee from the in-comic television show Starlee and The Moonbeams. The arc covers everything from what to bring to the frustrations of trying to find the correct line for badges.
The July 3 strip sees the Forth group get separated but also adds yet another cameo, this time a Haruko cosplayer from FLCL.
Anime and video games are popping up all over the place in newspaper serials. The June 10 comic strip of Wulff & Morgenthaler's WuMo had a laugh at the popular mobile game Pokémon GO when it was mistakenly used as a dating app.
