Mario Voice Charles Martinet Gets Guinness Record for Most Performances as Same Video Game Character
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Prolific voice actor Charles Martinet announced on Twitter on Friday that he was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for "most video game voice over performances as the same character." Martinet has voiced Nintendo's iconic hero Mario in at least 100 games.

Martinet first voiced the role of Mario in the CD-ROM game Mario Teaches Typing in 1992, but fans would get to know the voice best in the Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64 with the now easily recognizable lines "It's a-me, Mario!" and "Let-sa go!"
Martinet has reprised the role in subsequent Mario franchise games where he also voices Luigi, Wario, Baby Mario, and Waluigi.
Martinet's award follows the recently Guinness-recognized voice actress Masako Nozawa. Nozawa received two awards last year, including "voice actor who voiced the same character in a video game for the longest period" and "longest video game voice acting career." The awards are slightly different from Martinet's award whereas Martinet has voiced the same character in the largest number of video games and Nozawa has voiced the same character in video games for the longest amount of time.
