Anime Music Event at Manchester's Flatpack Festival on May 19
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The Flatpack Festival in Birmingham, which runs through May, will include an event called "Ichi Anime Show" on Thursday May 19 at 8 p.m., at the Printmakers Arms (directions).
The "Ichi Anime Show" is presented in partnership with The Japan Foundation, and the video above shows a performance of the show in Coventry in 2021. The event is described on the site:
"Taking inspiration for his art from far and wide – a melting-pot of punk, reggae and dub, Henri Salvador, tribal music and old scratchy 78s, and with his trusty sampler never far away, ICHI produces something totally idiosyncratic and entirely new... He takes the notion of a one-man band to new limits combining his handmade inventions with steel drums, toys and everyday objects all in the space of one brilliant set. We commissioned ICHI to write and perform new music to a selection of classic Japanese animated short films from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Featuring some of the finest short anime films by pioneers such as Osamu Tezuka and Keiichi Tanaami, these psychedelic and offbeat films inspired a whole generation of Japanese animators."
Flatpack Festival will also include a short film collection called "Colour Box: Dream Big" on Saturday May 21 (11 a.m., MAC Birmingham) which will include Koji Yamamura's short film "Polar Bear Bears Boredom" (2021).
Also on Saturday May 21, there will be a short film collection called Wired for Sound (2.15 p.m., Mockingbird Screen), which will include Shunsaku Hayashi's short film "After the Dance" (2021).
Grateful thanks to Jordan Scott for the information.
