Voice actresses play Western parotia, Greater lophorina; also form Gothic×Luck unit

The official Twitter account for the Kemono Friends franchise revealed on Monday that Madoka Suge (left in picture below) and Mashiro Yagi (right) will play the new characters Western parotia and Greater lophorina, respectively, in both the upcoming stage play and the second season of the anime.

The pair will form the new unit Gothic×Luck.

A previous visual for the anime shows two new characters that reads, "Found new friends."

The play will run at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Club eX in Tokyo from November 8-18.

The anime will premiere on January 7 at 26:05 a.m. (effectively January 8 at 2:05 a.m.) on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and AT-X.

The new anime season's story begins with Serval and Caracal finding a "human" child in the forest. As they travel with the child, they meet new Friends, uncover the secrets of Japari Park, and become involved in an event that will "shake the earth."

Yuka Ozaki, Kana Motomiya, Saki Ono, Aya Uchida, Mikoi Sasaki, Ruka Nemoto, Kyōka Tamura, Aina Aiba, and Ikuko Chikuta return to voice Serval, Fennec, Common Raccoon, Lucky Beast, Royal Penguin, Emperor Penguin, Gentoo Penguin, Rockhopper Penguin, and Humboldt Penguin, respectively. Yui Ishikawa and Riko Koike join the cast as the Child and Caracal, respectively.

Ryuichi Kimura (Aikatsu!) is directing the anime at Tomason. Takuya Masumoto is writing and supervising the series' scripts. Hideo Taniguchi (Folktales from Japan) is the CG director. Nobuyuki Abe returns as the sound director. Yasuyuki Konno is credited for sound effects. Akiyuki Tateyama returns as the music composer. Shinnosuke Numata is credited as animation producer.

The first season's director TATSUKI previously said he would not be working on the second season, and the show's producer said that anime studio Yaoyorozu will not return.

Nexon's original Kemono Friends app game launched in early 2016 and ended service in December of that year — before the Kemono Friends anime even aired. The 12-episode television anime then premiered on TV Tokyo and TV Osaka in January 2017 and ended in March 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and is also currently streaming the Welcome to the JAPARI PARK (Yōkoso Japari Park) spinoff anime.
