Atsuko Ishida Launches New Manga in Tezucomi Magazine

The third issue of Micro Magazine Publishing Company's Tezucomi Osamu Tezuka tribute magazine confirmed on December 5 that artist Atsuko Ishida is launching the HeiSei Nanairo Inko (HeiSei Rainbow Parakeet) manga in the next issue on Tuesday. The manga is based on Tezuka's Rainbow Parakeet (Nanairo Inko) manga, and it brings back the thief Rainbow Parakeet into the Heisei Era, or the current period according to the Japanese calendar.
Rainbow Parakeet ran in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1981 to 1983. The official Osamu Tezuka website describes the story:
Rainbow Parakeet is a criminal action manga featuring a genius actor whose specialty is mimicry — but he is also a thief. He accepts any role as a mimic, and performs it very well on the condition that the theater and the company overlook his stealing from the audience.A woman detective Mariko Senri follows him around in an attempt to arrest him, although she loves him. Then, Tamasaburo, a dog capable of performing as Rainbow Parakeet himself, joins the company.
A stage play for the manga ran at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from October 4 to October 8.
Atsuko Ishida was formerly an animator who worked on Ranma 1/2 and Magic Knight Rayearth before starting a career as a manga artist in 1998. She adapted Tezuka's Run wa Kaze no Naka in the magazine's second issue under the title Hatsukoi wa Kaze no Naka. The original Lunn Flies into the Wind manga tells the story of a teenage boy who falls for a girl in a poster he sees and takes it home with him to put on his wall. He decides this girl is his girlfriend and interacts with her like she's real. The story was published as a one-shot in 1979.
The Tezucomi magazine celebrates the 90th anniversary since the pioneering manga creator Osamu Tezuka's birth in 1928. The magazine launched in October and will run monthly for 18 issues.
